ArtSpot presents the group show of the Honorable Mention Artists of the Puget Sound Bird Fest Poster Contest, with the Pilchuck Audubon Society. With the theme “Every Bird Has a Song,” here are the Honorable Mention Artists.
Ally Grant (Runner Up) - Love at First Song “This piece was created specifically for the Puget Sound Bird Fest poster art, and is meant to show the moment when two Western Tanagers see each other for the first time. The love created by one song is a feeling that both birds and humans can understand, and can create a bond that lasts for generations.”
Alondra Guzman - A Familiar Song of Childhood was inspired by the mourning dove’s gentle cooing, a sound that reminds me deeply of my childhood and the feeling of being outside in moments of peace and familiarity. Paired with vibrant cherry blossoms symbolizing life, renewal, and spring, this piece celebrates nostalgia, overlooked beauty, and the quiet comfort found in nature.
Bean Drake - Songs of the Puget Sound Wetland “This mixed media illustration features a variety of species from the Pacific Northwest and is based off of Spectrograms, the visual depiction of bird sounds. The species are pacific wren, Townsend’s warbler, chestnut backed chickadee, Steller’s jay, black oystercatcher, Anna’s hummingbird, and spotted owl.”
Carrie Kipp Howard - Song of the Towhee “Spotted towhees are local songbirds that are often underappreciated. I was inspired by the towhees that brighten our yard with their flashes of color and cheerful calls.”
David Henkes - Songbird Symphony in C “I enjoy bringing the smaller stature in nature to a larger scale. And there is always a song in the air.”
Julia Giordano - Sing Out “Julia Giordano is a paper collage artist living in Edmonds, WA. She uses hand-painted papers to create bright and lively images inspired by the natural world.”
Ken Ketchum - Barn Swallow Ballet “I recently spent time at Lake Crescent and saw lots of Barn Swallows. That was the motivation for this piece.”
Paige Dietrich - Song of the Trees “I love playing with watercolor and ink-it’s sort of meditative and all-consuming. Birds are a favorite subject because they are so expressive!”

The Seattle Camera Club (SCC) was the first internationally known artists group from Washington State. Formed in 1924, the thirty-nine charter members were Issei, first generation Japanese immigrants. The group was celebrated for their excellence in pictorialism, the emerging use of photography as a fine arts medium. Dr. Kyo Koike (1878-1947), co-founder and driving force behind the organization, wrote a national introduction to the SCC that was published in Photo-Era Magazine in 1925: “We waited patiently for a long time, thinking that some Americans might organize a society for the friends of photography, but no light appeared on the dark sea. At last, we Japanese determined to establish one by ourselves, and the result is the Seattle Camera Club. I cannot anticipate what the future of our organization will be; that is a puzzle which time will solve.…The purpose of the SCC is to promote, foster and advance by every honorable means, Photographic Art”.
Besides Dr. Koike, some key members of the SCC included Virna Haffer (1899-1974), Hiromu Kira (1898–1991), Frank Asakichi Kunishige (1878–1960) Yukio Morinaga (1888–1968), and Ella E. McBride (1862-1965).

Center Gallery // Ben Groff
700 Main St, open Monday - Friday 9am-8pm, Saturday 10am-2pm
SEE ART ALL MONTH DURING BUSINESS HOURS AND ART WALK ON JUNE 18TH 5-8PM
The Center Gallery is featuring the 2026 Edmonds Arts Festival Poster Artist this month! Ben Groff is an award-winning painter of realist landscapes, travel scenes, and florals. His work has drawn intense interest for its heightened color and sensitive use of light to evoke both drama and tranquility in the mind of the viewer.
“Color is light and light is color,” Groff says. “They are tools to pry open a spiritual level -- the deep and powerful impression the original scene made on me. A good painting should make that same impression on the viewer.”
Originally from Pennsylvania and New York, Ben has lived most of his life in the Puget Sound region, where he enjoyed a long career as a nurse at Virginia Mason Hospital. His interests have included hiking, mountaineering, travel, music, photography, art, and literature; he has been a fiction writer with many published stories. He is currently a member-artist at Parklane Gallery in Kirkland, WA, where his work can be seen on an ongoing basis.
Coldwell Banker Bain // Tom Schumacher
512 Bell St, open Monday - Saturday 10am-4pm
SEE ART ALL MONTH DURING BUSINESS HOURS AND ART WALK ON JUNE 18TH 5-8PM
As a child Tom loved to draw and be artistic, but he was originally inspired (like many) to paint by the master landscape painter Bob Ross in the late 1990s. However, he stopped shortly after that when his life got busier. In 2017 he picked up the paintbrush again and began painting subjects that inspired him. This time with more passion and commitment towards becoming a more serious “artist”. Since then, Tom has done numerous commission paintings of animals and people while also being inspired by his travels and the beautiful scenery of the Northwest and beyond. Tom has moved well beyond the Bob Ross style paintings and has developed his own styles and techniques to create life-like paintings people will enjoy in their homes. More recently, Tom has started to focus more time learning portrait painting and the art of capturing the human face on canvas.

Fox + Bottle // Tracey Fox
112 5th Ave S,openTuesday - Saturday 11am - 8pm, Sunday 11am-6pm
SEE ART ALL MONTH DURING BUSINESS HOURS AND ART WALK ON MAY 21ST 5-8PM
Tracey lives and paints in Edmonds, Washington. Her work explores quiet, intimate moments through simplified still life compositions. She is drawn to everyday objects—glass, fruit, bottles—not for their function, but for the way they hold light, color, and mood. In these familiar forms, she looks for something more atmospheric and emotional than literal.
She works with a limited palette and soft, layered brushwork, allowing subtle shifts in color and value to carry the painting. Reflections and edges are often softened or lost, creating a sense of calm and ambiguity. She is especially interested in the tension between control and looseness—where precision gives way to suggestion. Light plays a central role in her process. Rather than describing objects in full detail, Tracey uses light to reveal and obscure, letting certain areas dissolve while others come forward.

Each piece captures a fleeting moment, inviting reflection, stillness, peace, and a sense of connection. Lynn currently works primarily in acrylics, with a focus on landscapes. Inspired by Sorolla, Sargent, Monet, and Renoir, she is drawn to exploring light, color, and atmosphere. What began as a pandemic hobby in 2021 quickly grew into a dedicated painting practice, and she now brings a thoughtful contemporary perspective to the gallery.

MaJe Gallery // Kathy Tuura
409 Main St,open Tuesday - Thursday noon-4pm, Friday - Saturday 11am-5pm
SEE ART ALL MONTH DURING BUSINESS HOURS AND ART WALK ON JUNE 18TH 5-8PM
Watercolorist Kathy Tuura’s loose strokes create deliberately informal compositions of the natural beauty of Washington state that feel like a burst of exuberance. Although she has practiced various media throughout her life, watercolor offers the best medium for her most joyful artistic expressions. Because watercolor is so transportable, she carries materials with her nearly all the time so that when a moment strikes, she is ready to capture it.
Unlike most watercolor artists, Tuura uses a credit card edge for a “brush” rather than a brush with hairs. After observing a demonstration with this technique, she tried it out and fell in love with it. “A lightbulb went on inside. It unleashed a whole new level of creative expression within me,” Tuura exclaimed.
Join Tuura’s “make and take” project by creating a bookmark using her watercolors and a credit card during this month’s Third Thursday Art Walk!

Photo HQ // Ashley-Maria Gilson, Josh Jordan, Robyn Hartzell, & Brandy B
186 Sunset Ave, open Monday - Friday 9am-5:30pm, Saturday 10am-4pm
SEE ART ALL MONTH DURING BUSINESS HOURS AND ART WALK ON JUNE 18TH 5-8PM
Ashley-Maria Gilson is a fine art photographer based in Edmonds, working across black-and-white film, digital photography, and mordançage — a darkroom process that alters silver gelatin prints to create lifted, veiled textures. Her work captures the quiet beauty of nature, impermanence, and transformation through a blend of traditional and experimental techniques. Drawn to fleeting moments and subtle details, she creates images that invite viewers to slow down and experience the natural world in a more intimate, contemplative way. Ashley-Maria embraces unpredictability as an essential part of the creative process, using it to explore themes of transformation, loss, renewal, and personal artistic evolution.
Now in his second year of film photography, Josh Jordan has been exploring the medium by experimenting with a range of film stocks and camera bodies.
Robyn Hartzell is a Seattle-based photographer who specializes in travel photography, having explored and documented over 50 countries with both digital and 35mm film cameras. Her love of photography began in middle school, developing her first rolls of film in her art class’s darkroom, a process she still uses today. All photographs showcased in the gallery are traditionally printed by Robyn in the darkroom on fiber-based paper and captured on a Canon AE-1 with 50mm lens. Robyn’s work reflects a deep appreciation for the beauty of everyday life around the world, captured through the lens of curiosity and adventure.
Brandy B is a photographer and creator based in Bothell, WA. She was first introduced to photography when her dad brought home a used Minolta X-700. Not immediately trusted with the precious gear, her pursuit of the medium began as an act of defiance and rebellion. She "borrowed" that Minolta for her entire senior year of high school until she was discovered. Eventually, her dad gave in and gifted her an old camera of her own, which she used to continue documenting the world around her. Photography has since become a way for Brandy to understand and interact with the world. Believing that magic exists within the moments between composing and releasing the shutter, she is able to find herself and her voice there. This collection of photographs was created between 2022 and 2024 after moving to Washington. Feeling lost in life and her career, she spent all her free time in a trail across from her apartment amongst the ferns, as she impatiently waited for the universe to give her the answers. She no longer lives across from that trail but tries to visit as much as she can. These days, you will most often find her wandering Bothell or Edmonds solo; sometimes with a group, but always with a camera.

Maya Cabassi is a Seattle based fiber artist specializing in wool paintings and wool figurines. Through the use of whimsy and fantastical imagery, she hopes to give people a break from the daily hustle, a chance to smile, and a reminder to feel good. Her muse is the wild greens of the Pacific Northwest, the lulling blues of the Mediterranean region, and the adorable animals we encounter in nature. She uses a technique called needle felting where each fiber is meticulously felted onto the canvas with a needle, without the use of glue. She uses wool sourced from sheep raised in non-mulesed herds, a controversial surgical practice performed on the sheep, which causes pain and suffering. Maya also offers needle felting workshops through her business Minerva’s Studio.
