512 Bell St, open daily 10am-4pm
SEE ART ALL MONTH DURING BUSINESS HOURS AND ART WALK ON SEPTEMBER 18TH 5-8PM
Jen Monteleone is an intuitive abstract artist based in South Snohomish County, Washington. She found her way to painting during the pandemic. What initially was a way to release stress and find more balance in her life became a passion and purpose. As an intuitive artist, Jen doesn’t have a plan when she begins a new work. She activates the canvas or paper with written intentions - “what am I feeling, what do I need to release, what do I need to celebrate, how is my body feeling, how do I want to show up in this moment,” - and from there things unfold. Jen evolves alongside her work. Most days she finds herself stumbling onto a new technique or a mixed color combo that uncovers more curiosity and self-discovery. Through vibrant, expressive layers of color, texture, and marks, Jen's work explores self-awareness, transformation, and rebirth. Her intention is for viewers to linger a while, allowing the work to provide a sense of comfort, healing, and peace.

“In my paintings, I capture the things in life that surround us as we go about our day. The light and color contrasts of sky, water and waves never disappoint. In the quiet and even bustling moments, the streets, cars and buildings that represent daily living inspire me.”
Raised in Oceanside, CA, Bear’s painting skills were first recognized and encouraged in public school, where arts education was always included in the curriculum. While taking community college art courses, the 1970s SoCal surf scene informed Bear’s early watercolor work. At that time he was mentored by San Diego watercolorist Dan Camp, honing techniques in studio and plein air painting of beach towns, local landmarks and California missions. Some of Bear’s watercolors depicting coastal scenes and missions were accepted into the Ruth Mayer Gallery, Laguna Beach, California.
Surfing days long gone, the Pacific Northwest provides new creativity. He enjoys painting the local scene, inspired by all there is to see around his hometown on Puget Sound. Turning to acrylics in 2015, Bear’s techniques and range of style are mostly self-taught yet influenced by many years as a watercolorist. His work reflects an appreciation of streetscapes, historic buildings and ocean waves, which became popular among locals and tourists visiting North Coastal Art Gallery in Carlsbad, CA., and Pier Plaza Art Afaire events in Huntington Beach, CA. He now finds a similar experience selling prints and originals in local shops and the Edmonds Museum Summer Market. He regularly participates in Art Walk Edmonds, which is hosted by a generous and supportive downtown business community.

Whether beside a rushing river, a quiet stream, or the vast ocean, Julie finds renewal and a sense of equilibrium in the presence of water, its movement offering a soothing remedy for life’s turbulence, restoring balance and clarity.
Through her signature technique of layering texture, metal leaf, and paint, Julie Marcelia creates dynamic compositions that shift with the light, giving her work a sense of movement and depth. By blending structural layers with spontaneous, flowing elements, she captures a delicate balance between control and unpredictability, mirroring the forces of nature that inspire her.
Julie lives and works in the Seattle area. She holds both a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in fine arts, first studying music before pivoting into visual art. Her work is featured annually at the Northwest Flower and Garden Show in Seattle each February, and at other select shows throughout the Pacific Northwest. North Sound Church // Rick Klauber
201 4th Ave N, open Monday - Thursday 9am-5pm
SEE ART DURING THIRD THURSDAY ART WALK ON SEPTEMBER 18TH 5-8PM ONLY
After retirement one of Rick’s favorite things was searching for rocks and stones. He’d spend hours scouring the landscape, rejecting hundreds of possibilities to find just the “right” one. But finding the “perfect” stone was just the beginning. His passion was to present the stone in an artistic way known as suiseki. In this Japanese art form the stone must be of natural origin, not carved or altered, and presented on a wooden base known as a diaza. Though frowned upon in the eyes of some purists, one cut is allowed for placement on the base. The goal is to present the stone in such a way that the viewer is drawn into an imagined world. Perhaps the stone resembles a mountain, a lake, a river. Maybe an animal or an object. Or maybe something bigger, something unseen.
Tragically, Rick Klauber died in a boating accident in 2018. Though Rick is no longer with us, his work is available through Klauber Viewing Stone Art with the goal of making Rick’s creations available to those who also find pleasure in the art of suiseki. Hillary Klauber, his daughter-in-law, is their the family representative.
