A Northwest native most of her life, Vicki Hone Smith is a photographer and mixed media artist. She received her first Argus box camera at the age of nine after showing a great deal of interest in the cameras her father frequently carried around to capture the special moments of her early life in Southern California, circa 1955. That interest waned after a few years and resurfaced during college when she was able to upgrade to her first 35mm camera. For the next three decades Vicki took photography classes when she could afford them and had time and energy outside her career in commercial printing and advertising. In the late eighties she was invited to be part of a two-person gallery exhibit in Pioneer Square with her macro floral photography. It was not until she retired and traveled to a remote island in Greece and later to Africa and Europe that she was able to devote more of her time to developing her skills as a photographer. She had a number of shows in Seattle selling and taking orders for many of her travel photographs, especially those of Italy.
Meet the artist during the Third Thursday Art Walk from 5-8pm at Cascadia Art Museum. Admission to the museum is free during those hours for Art Walk.
