SEE ART ALL MONTH DURING BUSINESS HOURS AND ART WALK ON AUGUST 21ST 5-8PM

When Kurt was a kid, he wanted to be a rockstar, so he started writing music. In 1994 Kurt put together a band called bicycle. The band released an album on Capricorn records that made it onto the list of the Huffington Post's most underrated albums of the 1990s. In 2001 he broke up the band and started painting. Kurt really loves being a painter. He gets to be creative the whole time while doing it. When you’re writing songs you get to be really creative at first, but after that initial burst you have to rehearse your songs over and over again so you can play them exactly the same way night after night. Forever. Painting is so much different than writing songs. Painters don’t ever have to paint the same painting twice. No drunk Italian has ever yelled at a painter to. “Paint it again Leonardo! Do the Mona Lisa!” Visual artists paint it once and then if they’re lucky enough to sell their art, they never have to see it again as long as they live.

A proponent of sustainable business and living, Beth creates only on wood or metal, using found or gifted objects as much as possible in her work. This philosophy keeps things out of the landfill, creates one-of-a-kind art for the miniature enthusiast, and shares important messages about sustaining our earth and ideas. She also produces commissions in many themes and enjoys the challenge of keeping each piece as sustainable as possible while also fulfilling the request.

Beth's award-winning work has appeared in multiple juried gallery exhibitions in Washington State, her piece "Plague Year 2" took home the top prize in Small Artisan Works at Edmonds Arts Festival in 2023. She also accepted Third Place (2022) and Honorable Mention (2024) at Mountlake Terrace Friends of the Arts, both in the Miniatures category. In 2023 she stepped out of her comfort zone and created a miniature outdoor scene within a wreath 3' in diameter, winning the People's Choice award. As a guest at three Art Walk Edmonds , she enjoys meeting new people while demonstrating her process.

SEE ART ALL MONTH DURING BUSINESS HOURS AND ART WALK ON AUGUST 21ST 5-8PM

Gallery North is pleased to announce “Women and Art” featuring member artist Roxanne Marlin and guest artist Stacie LeBlanc.

From an early age, Roxanne Marlin explored and created art. Both of her parents were artists and she was encouraged by her teachers to pursue her love of art in different mediums. She is drawn to the beauty around us and the “ordinary miracles” we see everyday. Her contemporary impressionistic style captures the essence of a scene rather than focusing on minute detail like a camera. She likes bright and bold colors and seeks to amplify and interpret natures splendor in her own style. She infuses her work with energy to create happy, fun and enjoyable paintings to convey and ignite a sense of joy. She paints and draws in acrylic and pastels and is a lifelong PNW resident having raised her sons in Edmonds. She has painted murals around town and has had work juried into Edmonds Art Festival.

Stacie LeBlanc is best known for her transparent watercolor and metallic gouache paintings that combine earth pigments with vibrant color and layered metallic gouache accents. Recent work has featured opaque acrylic gouache with a brighter palette, highlighting interplay between matte and reflective surfaces and continues an ongoing emphasis on abstract figurative elements combined with organic, undulating backgrounds. Current themes play with ideas highlighting mythology, introspection, time and women’s independence and sexuality. Stacie has exhibited her works at The Domicile Gallery in Madison Park, The Parklane Gallery in Kirkland, The Jansen Art Center in Lynden, the Madison Art Walk, Anacortes Art Fair and through the Marin Society of Artists Jurhow. Stacie earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts at University of Washington and taught high school and middle school art for Bellevue School District for 11 years.

A reception with the artist will be held at Gallery North on Saturday, August 9th from 1-4pm. You can also meet the artist during the Third Thursday Art Walk.

We use tools to do nearly everything. To eat we need a fork. To sleep we need a bed. Without changing themselves, tools are the implements that incite change, i.e. the fork moves the food. The exhibit Tools: Form and Function looks at the foundational objects and implements we rely on every day, re-imagined through artistic interpretation.

Show runs August 15th through October 4th.

MaJe Gallery // Reeve Washburn

409 Main St, open Tuesday - Thursday noon-4pm, Friday - Saturday 11am-5pm
SEE ART ALL MONTH DURING BUSINESS HOURS AND ART WALK ON AUGUST 21ST 5-8PM

West Seattle artist Reeve Washburn has a background in graphic design and creative project management. Abstract expression is her passion. Her unique style of mixed media and monoprint collage is inspired by midcentury modern and Asian aesthetics. At a career juncture, she joined the West Seattle Art Walk as lead coordinator. The experience was transformative: inspired by the participating artists, their stories and their work, she gave herself permission to paint abstracts. When she started painting, she found herself drawn to styles, imagery and colors that surrounded her growing up. From her father’s eclectic collection of contemporary art, Japanese woodblock prints and abstract lithographs to Marimekko fabrics, and works in New York museums. "I’ve always been an appreciative aesthete," she says.

She now loves the act of expressing this visual inspiration as her own. She identifies most with the concept of duality in her work. Constraints and freedom. Depths and surfaces. Structure and looseness. "This dynamic represents the richness and complexity of who I am as an artist and a person. I grow from exercising the duality, extending my own boundaries, leaping forward," she expressed.

Reeve is a proud member of Women Painters of Washington and Seattle Print Arts.

Reeve will host an interactive project in which patrons can create their own mini-artwork using her papers and paints during the Third Thursday Art Walk!

Soaring Heart Natural Bedding // Jan Powers

111 Main St, open Tuesday - Saturday 10am-6pm, Sunday noon-5pm
SEE ART ALL MONTH DURING BUSINESS HOURS AND ART WALK ON AUGUST 21ST 5-8PM

Jan Powers is a watercolor artist who possesses a whimsical flair. She enjoys implementing fantasy into the realm of reality. Allowing a mysticism that leaves one to wonder...can it be?

Not really certain in the beginning why she chose the medium of watercolor. She quickly discovered its unique characteristics and embraced them. One of those being, that with watercolor, the paper is the light. The places of light that the viewer sees in a watercolor painting are thought out by the artist before any paint ever touches the paper.

Watercolor, unlike other mediums, takes on a life of its own. The pigment will only go where the water takes it. And left on its own, creates subtleties and nuances that can only occur through the natural process of just being left to work its magic. The transparency of watercolor offers the ability to bring light and enchantment in ways not found in other mediums.

As of late, her artistic abilities are venturing onto yet another path. The art of sewing! She had been wanting a quilted robe for herself and could not find what she had envisioned. So, she made herself one! That project has acknowledged a life of its own. One she is very excited about!

Her artist gifts offer a voice of communication she refers to as an alternate language. Unspoken, but communicating her inner self nonetheless. Often, better than words.
