SEE ART ALL MONTH DURING BUSINESS HOURS AND ART WALK ON MARCH 21ST 5-8PM

Whitney is a contemporary mixed media artist in the Pacific Northwest with roots in dance, teaching and a life-long love of design. For her, art means constantly growing, learning, exploring. The two words that best describe what drives her artistically have always been “What if? ” Primarily an abstract artist, Whitney's work is encaustic and mixed media with an emphasis on Indigo dye. Her work is influenced by her background in dance and a fascination with the sensuous beauty found within color, texture, movement and form. As an encaustic artist, she paints with beeswax medium and pigments. Whitney fell in love with wax because of the texture, depth and design that could be created often by combining the wax with paint, fabric, papers or tar. Other times, she allows the wax to stand on its own and steal the show.

Vicki is a Northwest native, residing in Edmonds and a participating artist at Graphite Arts Center in downtown Edmonds. Her medium is primarily photography often combined with encaustic and other mixed media. Drawn to the simplicity of form, shadow and light, so it begins, always exploring. Looking beyond what is seen at first glance, into the nuances where the true essence of a living thing is found, often leads to expressions in the abstract. Capturing these moments in images that communicate what she sees and feels is always the challenge. To draw a similar response or curiosity from those who view her work is the reward.

Suzzanne's paintings are an expression of a sense of wholeness, peacefulness, and well-being of mind and body. Each paining is a poem, a song, a prayer, and an expression of gratefulness. She believes paintings as part of a universal language that connects us together like a subliminal message coming through sensitive observations from the very ethereal fabric we call existence. These transmissions of feelings into creative manifestations are from her voice of being outdoors in nature. Her senses come alive when she is in nature, she hears the birds singing and feels and breath the fresh air. Painting, for her is a form of meditation and provides a deep experience of being alive. Abstraction - no words, no particular place or time, just the ethereal threads of life.

STORY TIME ON MARCH 29TH AT 9:30AM

Whidbey Island author and therapist Sarri Gilman will be reading from her book, Cocoon, at Edmonds Bookshop on Thursday, March 21st at 6:00 pm during Art Walk Edmonds. Sarri Gilman is the founder of Cocoon House. She is a psychotherapist who has aTEDx Talk with over one million views. For two decades she ran nonprofits and realized the people who do the work of caring for others need support. She has a private practice on Whidbey Island and teaches workshops around the world based on her books on boundaries, selfcare, and overwhelm recovery for people in healthcare, human services, and education. Sarri noticed a problem. Many of the teenage students attending the Everett,Washington, school where she worked had nowhere to go at night. She then realized they were victims of a devastating loophole in the state’s system, which provided housing for younger children and adults who were homeless, but had no space for teens. What happened next was not in Sarri’s career plan, but the family therapist could not turn her back on the problem unfolding around her. Instead, she became the executive director of a nonprofit organization, Cocoon House, which served –and continues to serve – as a home for the most vulnerable teens in her community, giving them the chance to find stability and a new lease on life. Cocoon is her unbelievable, inspiring and true story.

On Friday, March 29th at 9:30 am, Edmonds Bookshop will host local children’s author and teacher, Kim Helleren at their monthly Story Time. 190 Sunset Ave, open Sunday - Thursday 4-8:30pm , Friday - Saturday 3-9:30pm
SEE ART ALL MONTH DURING BUSINESS HOURS AND ART WALK ON MARCH 21ST 5-8PM

Becca Lavin started painting in 2020 when her 20 year old private massage therapy practice closed its doors for the last time. Becca's art is mainly abstract or representational abstract using every medium that is within reach. It is restless, colorful and textured with a mind of its own. If there is a theme, she hasn't found it yet. Perhaps, Freedom. By the time she finishes a painting there is usually a deep understanding that has surfaced, for her. She leaves the rest to the observer as that is one of the magical things about abstract. The utter subjectiveness of what comes through to the observer. "I love that about abstract!"

Wendy Rader-Konofalski is a local artist who started painting later in life. A brush with death and seven weeks in the hospital and a long recovery may have worked a form of magic on her brain that opened up a portal into a creativity that she never knew existed. Wendy paints on canvas with acrylics, but often use mixed media elements such as charcoal and ink. She enjoys including collage in her work. She paints abstract works and landscapes as well as small florals. Wendy views her work as a sort of symbiotic relationship: herself as artist, and you as viewer.
